Arizonans For Gun Safety Donations

The Legislative District 26 Republicans have decided it’s a good idea to raise money this holiday season by raffling off an AR-15 style assault weapon -- the same style gun used to murder 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

The raffle of the assault weapon, whose winner will be announced just a few days before the first anniversary of the Sandy Hook mass shooting, is not only irresponsible and short sighted, but grossly insensitive to the Sandy Hook victims and families and to all victims and survivors of gun violence. Raffling a powerful firearm that is the very symbol of recent mass shooting is antithetical to common sense and concern for public safety.  Arizona deserves much better from the LD26 Republican leadership.

What can we as Democrats in LD 26 do? As far as the raffle, not much. We can only hope and encourage the Republican leadership to conduct a background check on the raffle winner before turning over an AR-15 assault rifle to him or her. I’m not very hopeful. Therefore, we should make a statement of our disappointment and concern over this despicable activity.

From now until December 14th, we will be accepting donations for Arizonans for Gun Safety. 100% of the funds that that are donated through our special donation page will benefit Arizonans for Gun Safety’s gun violence prevention, education and advocacy programs. Arizonans for Gun Safety is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to reducing gun deaths and injuries in Arizona communities.

Help us send a strong message to the Republicans in LD 26. We support gun violence prevention – not raffling off an AR-15 assault rifle just days from the first anniversary of the Newtown tragedy.  This raffle is not responsible, it’s not Arizona, and it certainly isn’t Legislative District 26.  Donate today and help send this important message.
